Course description

The objective of this course is to provide a concise, yet in-depth, overview of new theoretical and empirical research on a range of topics at the intersection of war, conflict, and identity, including interstate and civil war, terrorism, riots and genocide, and the dynamics of conflict.  We will seek to survey cutting edge research and identify and assess emerging research agendas.  The issues we will cover include the following: the variation in patterns and forms of violent conflict over time and space?  The impact of identities on violence, and vice-versa; the causes and dynamics of civil war; the decline of interstate war and the rise of terrorism; state building and failed states.

Applications Closed

Applicants can be undergraduate as well as graduate students, with an excellent command of English and an academic interest in International Relations. Other applicants (i.e. senior high school students or young professionals) will also be considered.
I value greatly my Olympia experience and the incredible opportunities it gave me. It provided a first platform to present my early research and receive constructive feedback. That was an essential moment in my development, and greatly helped me in my academic career.
Dr. Ruairidh J. Brown
Head of Politics and International Relations, Forward College
